The concept of Information Technology has changed significantly since the dawn of the 21st Century. IT is no longer defined as the ability to search the internet using keywords. It also does not include the use of clunky desktop computers. As technology has evolved, IT has grown to include many subsets, from engineering to programming to security to analytics.
There may be several types of IT security specialists depending on who you ask. Each security expert uses its own classifications. As networks expand using cloud technology and other emerging technologies, there will be more IT security types.

There are three main types of IT security as discussed in the upcoming paragraph.
Network security is, at its most basic, the interactivity between different devices within a network. This includes both the hardware and software. According to the SANS Institute network, security is the protection of the underlying networking infrastructure against unauthorized access and misuse, modification, destruction, or improper disclosure.
End-point protection software can include privileged user control and application controls. Data controls, intrusion detection, and encryption are some examples. Application security controls prevent users from downloading dangerous files. Encryption protects data integrity while data transfers are protected by encryption. Security departments often install this software on both the device and the company's server.
Cybersecurity, as mentioned above, is a term that covers internet security. It mainly deals with information transit. Imagine that you send an email and, while it is in transit to someone else, they grab the email before it reaches its intended recipient. This is known as a man-in-the-middle attack. This is where encryption can be used as a defense. It makes any stolen information much less valuable for the perpetrator.
